Playing The Social Media Game

February 29th, 2008 by Carlos del Rio

I have recently been using StumbleUpon more frequently, and for a wide number of topics, and I have found some interesting sites. I also notice that I see certain people that I know from search marketing communities are very active. I might say extremely active. I have to wonder how many of the sites that they put up are legitimately things they like and how many are things that they are connected to professionally.

Is it possible for SEM professionals to use social media off-the-clock? Or they always on the job?

Modern Life

Some of the active SMM people I imagine live there life like that.

Social Marketing In Real Life

I had a good time at SMX West. It is interesting to see how the make up of the crowd changed between the first SMX and this one. My favorite thing about conferences is meeting people. Chris Boggs told me he made a point to meet me and bought me a beer for making fun of someone — that was very gratifying. I was also excited to meet Will Crichtlow of Distilled, he passed on a tid-bit about mobile search that made me think.

Scott Fish of Portland’s EngineWorks encourages any of you north-westerners to come to Portland for SearchFest. At the Google Groove I met a couple people that are doing some socially conscious SEO like Craig Cochrane from Daily Strength, an online support group resource.

Thanks to everyone who said hello and had a drink with me, if you find yourself in Seattle drop me a line.

Hey man, it was nice to meet you. We didn’t get to talk much, and my Mozzer Meet ‘n Greet was an utter and total failure, but I had a great time.
